"In stock" refers to goods that are available for sale and use. With the growing concern over global hunger, unequal distribution of resources, and global warming, the owner of In Stock Fun Kitchen wanted to make a difference. Starting from the raw materials, they focused on reducing consumption during cuisine preparation, improving the quality of meals, and minimizing leftovers. This commitment to sustainability is the driving force behind the creation of In Stock Fun Kitchen.
The restaurant occupies two joined two-story street houses, preserving the well-carved walls and close pebble surface. The dining area on the ground floor is adorned with wood grain tiles to distinguish it from the working area. A semi-open kitchen provides a clear view of the culinary action. One building retains the top triangular steel frame from the original structure, forming an open dining area with high ceilings. The other building preserves the original wooden truss of the roof. The void on the second floor not only enhances the visual space but also provides a patio for the restaurant. The pendant lights above the long table draw inspiration from the roof appearance of Tainan street houses, adding a touch of local charm.
Preservation and safety were paramount during the realization of this design. MUJIE Design Co.,Ltd. collaborated closely with professional technicians to ensure the building was presented in its most beautiful form. The project was completed in December 2017 in Tainan, where the challenge of integrating an old house with a novel business model was successfully overcome.
In Stock Fun Kitchen spans 171.9 square meters and has been recognized for its outstanding design. It was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2019. This prestigious accolade is bestowed upon designs that exhibit creativity, resourcefulness, and technical excellence, contributing to quality of life improvements and making the world a better place.
In Stock Fun Kitchen is not just a restaurant; it is a statement against food waste and a celebration of Tainan's rich heritage. With its sustainable practices and unique design, it offers a dining experience that is both visually stunning and socially responsible.
